Act now before it's too late!

Winter is coming! Government grant support for EV charging comes to an end in March 2024 and with nothing advertised to replace the current grant schemes in place, now is the time to act before it’s too late.

The same also applies to landlords of commercial and residential premises. These grants also have the March cut-off date advertised on the website.

Why is now the time to think about getting chargers fitted? And is it worth applying for the grants available?

There are many stages of the process to consider before getting to the point in which an installation team is on-site fitting EV charge points. A business needs to consider whether they are looking to electrify their fleet or not, or whether are they going to offer a charging facility for their staff. Landlords need to determine whether the charge points they provide to tenants are needed and will be used.

If this is the case, they will need to put a business case together, gather quotations and decide on processes to make the units accessible. All of this takes time and careful consideration. To reduce costs, the cable run from the charge points to the power supply needs to be minimal. For this to be achieved it may involve reshaping a car park. This might not be achievable, there is the likelihood that ground works will be involved to bury cables, something that again will take time and cause disruption to day-to-day work whilst these are carried out.

Then there is a supply in demand to comply with. At present the availability of charge points is very good, however, things could change nearer to the closing of the grant schemes. The classic case of leaving things to the last minute may cause issues within the 1st quarter of 2024.

The voucher code you get with a grant application has a six-month expiry date so now is the time to get thinking about adding charge points to your business or properties.

What savings are available?

£350 off each charging socket installed, up to 40 sockets per business. This saving is the same for commercial and residential landlords. The EV infrastructure grant enables businesses to future-proof their site by saving £350 off each socket they install and £500 off each parking space that has future charging provisions in place such as cabling installed, ducting for cables to be installed and or a ground base in situ ready for a post to be mounted at a later date.

Since the inception of the grant schemes, EV Motion has saved customers over £15,000 through various EV-related government grants. As an OZEV Approved Installer, we can help businesses in becoming EV-ready by providing staff or their fleet with necessary and regular access to charging facilities.
